Through Sophie’s Eyes – Background Content

Hey folks!

So Google informed me today that one of my Google Classic sites needed to be migrated before that platform was shut down or something, which okay.

Except I forgot I had a Google Classic site.

And forgot that it was something I put together in 2009 to help other game devs understand TSE, the characters and so on. I wrote TSE in like 2004 or 2005 I think, and by 2009 knew I wasn’t going to touch it anymore. Other folks wanted to play with the world, so this was my effort I guess to help.

I never fully fleshed it out, but if you want a snapshot in time here you go. I do give some spoiler background on Sophie and Gerald.

It also has a roll call of people involved in various ports who were active in development at that time.

Otherwise you will mostly find the site like the game itself – full of distressing dead ends and incomplete thoughts 🙂

  1. Quite a few of the links showed up as a Google doc that is “not published” (like the Feature list, issues, Time Tracker, To-dos…).
I’m teased by some of the content which might be just headers alone, or might be a problem in the migration? (E.g. the only character descriptions are for Gerald and for Sophie (Mr Markley, TRAINER, and Trixie are all empty). Maybe the Concepts: Clones sections is only very short (unlike the other Concepts sections)
I’m only mentioning it in case there’s a limited window of time before the old Google site vanishes. (I had to migrate one last year, so I appreciate you stepping in to do this!)

      1. Cool! Thanks Melody! The tfgames thread for TSE has a lot of this information and the metadata of the game files also has more of it hidden away but this is great. I think I might add some of this info to The CHYOA I’m working on in an information branch.
Oh. Quick question. In the Roissy there is Hsaio Ling who clearly knows who Sophie was and is after her information … do you recall if that is Mr or Mrs Smith? Seems like it might be Mr Smith from GeneIVR. If you can’t remember that’s cool.
Revenge on Mr Smith seems like it could be a fun and rather simple addition 😉 I could add

  2. I just remembered I snagged a copy of the source code years ago, thinking even back then it might be nice to try to continue some of the branches. (Sheepish grin)

  3. Amazing Game I totally love it, it did take me awhile to get used to the commands but once I found all the different routes I totally fell in love with it.

I just wish someone talented enough would come along and finish it off. I love the school girl route and also Sophie submissive route but want really see what happens with prince charming.

Also I love the books you wrote I came across them by accident and then realised that had created Through Sophie eye’s.

    1. Coincidentally, I was thinking about this last week. But the source code I have is just the .t3v files, which seem to be a binary format and not well supported under Linux.
So I could try again loading it up in FrobTADS which seems kind of defunct, or look into auto-conversion into something like HTML/Twine or similar. But I can’t help but wonder if there’s a plain text source format that is semi-compiled into .t3v. As you can tell from this unclear reply, I’m no expert on TADS.
